Drug Free Workplace Certification in the State of Georgia requires:
- First yesr:
- two hours of employee education PLUS
- two additional hours of supervisor training
- Subsequent years
- one hour per employee PLUS
- one additional hour for supervisors.
While compliance with Drug Free Workplace Certification requirements makes education and training imperative, educating your staff as to policy and procedure, safety issues and substance abuse concerns of the company are good business assuring a higher level of compliance. Reducing liability is the name of the game. If you don’t tell employees what to do, how and why, their rights/responsibilities and document it how can you protect your company when that one employee challenges a WC or Unemployment claim denial or decides to seek legal counsel?
Supervisor training on policy and procedure, reasonable suspicion, job performance, confrontation, documentation, and referrals is critical in limiting liability and assuring a safe and healthy atmosphere for employees. Supervisors are responsible for implementing and administering company policy. They can’t perform if they don’t know what the policy says, when to test and how. Again if it’s not in writing it doesn’t exist nor is it enforceable.
A professional trainer, knowledgeable in all the ins and outs what’s needed can come to your workplace, job site or office and conduct the education/training at your convenience. This can also include a review of the Company Drug Policy, Drug and Alcohol testing procedures, Federal and State regulations, WC and Unemployment benefits, the why and how of the Drug Free Workplace program, and the workplace safety issue.
